Without a doubt the movie goers tend to compare this movie with negative shade comedy movies; Soodhu Kaavum and Neram, even though unique in its own way. Without hero worship and a mainline actor to steer the movie, the plot unfolds its strength just based on the unfurling events out of a situation and how that ends up. Naveen, the director has also played as one of the lead stars and kudos to him for bringing out a movie in a quirky way. The Tamil Movie Hot Scene is beautiful.
The Gang:
Four wastrels who end up in the jail plan to loot a house, and the roundup of events is a single hint on what’s in the store. Naveen (Naveen), Vellasamy (Rajaj), Sentrayan (Sentrayan), and Kuberan (Kuberan) are the nomads who are brought together by call it ill luck or coincidence, plan to make it big. The introductions of these characters in a whirlwind of flashbacks and how they ended up in jail is another segment within.
Naveen’s script does not wastes time and he makes use of the local connect in World cinema style, the ones that are influenced by Tarantino and Ritchie. Ritchie’s movies thrive on dark humor in an impeccable style that makes us to go on and love those characters, and so was Soodhu Kaavum. MK is typical in that style where the movie is situation driven. Vellasamy’s uncle is Bhaktavasalam(Jayaprakash) a millionaire who tricked Vellasamy’s father years ago and to retrieve the money, and settle down well the gang plot a devious strategy to loot.
What they think and what they arrive at is what makes the tagline of the movie “Fools Gathering”. Naveen’s script is rich in entertainment without taking up any dull moments, the flashbacks and the introduction of the lead cast is a galore of comedy. However to a point when the redundant usage of lines and scenes, makes you get a little irritated.
Through the first half, the four of them bring the floor down and gives us a sense of how a black comedy should progress; a noir comedy! The movie is also a horde of references with most of the lead actors dwelling on the script writer’s reference to various things in the society; one for instance the line that divides the poor and the rich is a superb effort. The Kid in the movie requires a deserving applause for her ample role though effective.
How else can you explain things going haywire than trying to step inside a house to loot, only to say the house empty. Pandiraj of Pasanga Productions has invested a healthy set of belief in this movie and job well done. Nataraj’s music goes down well, and the tunes integrate nicely, be it the song or the BGM. Camera by Tony is crisp without any flaws.
Probably the biggest drawback of the movie would’ve been the extended climax sequence, which in turn has made the movie considerably longer than expected. And the trouble is that most of the scenes are confined to a room and there is lesser scope. Though these are minor flaws, the movie is quite an entertainer, apt for a Saturday evening show
